리얼리티, 재현과 자율 사이 Reality, between representation & autonomy

2013년도 하반기 현대미술 기획전 ‘리얼리티, 재현과 자율 사이’는 인간과 자연이라는 보편적 풍경을 사실적 표현 방법과 자율적 해석으로 구현하고 있는 작품들이 전시되었으며 주제의 보다 다양한 접근을 위해 세 가지 Chapter로 나누어 구성되었다. 본 전시는 대상의 외적 유사성뿐만 아니라 내적 의미를 탐구하는 12명의 작가의 작품 39점을 통해 일상성에 묻힌 보편적 풍경을 조명하고 공유하고자 마련된 전시이다.

제1전시실은 번역된 인물이라는 부제로 실존하는 인물들이 조형적 언어로 옮겨져 오는 번역의 과정에서 만들어내는 다양한 이야기들이 담겨있으며 조덕현, 한영욱, 강강훈, 최찬숙 작가의 작품들로 구성되었다. 제2전시실은 허구적 풍경으로 익숙하면서도 낯선 풍경의 간극 사이를 오가며 펼쳐지는 리얼리티를 원성원, 최수정, 김민주 작가의 작품을 통해 만날 수 있다. 마지막으로 제3전시실과 특별전시실은 발췌된 풍경으로 일상적 풍경의 일부분을 발췌하여 그것을 조명하고 몰두한 작품들과 마주함으로써 일상의 사실들을 반추할 수 있으며, 이광호, 손봉채, 조미영, 안희정, 김봄 작가의 작품들로 구성되었다.

The Gyeongnam Art Museum (GAM) is holding ‘the Reality - Between Representation and Autonomy’, this exhibition deals with realistic reproduction, which is of equally great interest in this day and age as it was in ancient Greece, when art was regarded as an imitation of the present. It focuses on the unique aspects as well as universal aspects of personages and landscapes based on faithful expression for external resemblance with the subject and study of the inner meaning of the subject. It consists of three chapters for a more diverse approach to the theme. 

Exhibit Hall 1 is about translated personage. It adopts the concept of translation, where one language is changed into a different language. It tells various stories that are created in the process of translation, where existing figures are translated based on formative language. 

Exhibit Hall 2 showcases fictional landscapes. It will exhibit works that embody personal and universal narration, utopia, and energy, which unfold in the gap between familiar and unfamiliar landscapes. Lastly, Exhibit Hall 3 and the Special Exhibition Hall will be about extracted landscapes. Parts of ordinary landscapes that seem to have lost meaning because they are so ordinary are extracted. They are highlighted so that the audience can ruminate on the everyday ordinary truths all around us.
