국립현대미술관 서울관에서는 현대미술의 다양성을 보여주는 주제전 ‘환영과 환상’전을 열고 있다. 이번 전시는 사실적 재현에 기반을 두고 있는 동시대 미술의 다양한 스펙트럼을 환상성의 맥락에서 바라보는 전시이다. 강영민(1969- ), 강형구(1954- ), 고명근(1964- ), 유현미(1964- ), 이광호(1967- ), 천성명(1971- ), 최수앙(1975- ) 7명의 작가의 회화, 조각, 영상, 사진, 설치 등 30여 점의 작품으로 구성된다.

본 전시는 동시대 미술가들의 작품에 나타나는 재현, 환영과 환상의 관계를 통해 인간의 내적 욕망을 성취하려는 위장된 형태를 환상의 속성, 즉 환상성으로 보고 그 다양한 방법과 의미를 살펴본다. 또한 미술가들의 확장된 사유의 태도이자 창의적이고 긍정적인 속성을 지닌 환상의 문제를 삶의 진실과 의미찾기라는 예술의 본질적 측면에서 바라본다. 천성명의 <그림자를 삼키다>와 강영민의 <가위눌림-자본주의적 건설과 파괴의 딜레마>는 공간설치 작품으로 선보인다. 

Illusion and Fantasy, a thematic exhibition in which the diversity of contemporary art is well exemplified, is currently on display at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul to observe the wide spectrum of contemporary artistic practices, which are based on realistic representation, in the context of fantasticalness. The exhibition showcases around thirty works realized in such diverse mediums as painting, sculpture, video, photography and installation by seven artists: Hyungkoo Kang (1954- ), Youngmin Kang (1969- ), Myungkeun Koh (1964- ), Hyunmi Yoo (1964- ), Kwangho Lee (1967- ), Sungmyung Chun (1971- ) and Xooang Choi (1975- ). 

While focusing on the relationship among the elements of representation, illusion and fantasy embodied in the works of contemporary artists and understanding the attribute of fantasy—fantasticalness—is what defines the camouflaged attempt to satisfy the inner desires of humans, the exhibition casts lights on the diverse ways to utilize the factor of fantasticalness and the significances of the outcomes. A creative and positive fantasy created by an artist represents an extension of his or her attitude of thinking, and here the issue of fantasy is inquired into in the context of art’s intrinsic properties to convey the truth about life and its meaning. Among the exhibits are included two space installations: Sungmyung Chun’s Swallowing the Shadow nd Youngmin Kang’s Sleep Paralysis: The Dilemma between Capitalist Construction and Capitalist Destruction.
