한국현대미술의눈과 정신Ⅱ : 리얼리즘의 복권 Eye and Mind of Korean Contemporary Art II : Reinstatement of Realism

  가나인사아트센터는 한국현대미술에서 중요한 전환의 시기였던 1980년대부터 1990년대까지의 리얼리즘 미술을 오늘의 시각으로 재조명하고자 ‘한국 현대미술의 눈과 정신II : 리얼리즘의 복권’전을 개최한다. 이번 전시는 <한국현대미술의 눈과 정신>이라는 주제로 기획하고 있는 전시 가운데 두 번째 전시로, 특수한 시대적 상황 가운데 등장한 1980년대 한국 리얼리즘의 대표작가 권순철(1944- ), 신학철(1944- ), 민정기(1949- ), 임옥상(1950- ), 고영훈(1952- ), 황재형(1952- ), 이종구(1954- ), 오치균(1956- )의 주요 작품 100여 점을 선보인다. 이번 전시를 통해 이른바 ‘예술을 위한 예술’이 아닌 사회적, 시대적, 역사적 인식과 각성으로 나타난 한국 리얼리즘의 면면을 살피고, 이것이 단순히 한 시대나 사회의 한정된 흐름이 아닌 우리 미술의 과거와 현재 그리고 미래를 이어가는 주요한 흐름으로 계속 진행되고 있음을 살피는 기회가 되길 바란다.

  Gana Insa Art Center is pleased to present ‘Eye and Mind of Korean Contemporary Art II : Reinstatement of Realism’, a revisit from today’s perspective of 1980-90’s Realism Art, a significant transformative period in Korean contemporary art. As the second of an ongoing exhibition series called ‘Eye and Mind of Korean Contemporary Art’, this exhibition will feature about 100 works of pivotal Realist artists of the 1980s who arose in the midst of a distinct historical time — Sun-cheol KWUN(1944- ), Hak-chul SHIN(1944- ), Joung-ki MIN(1949- ), Ok-sang LIM(1950- ), Young-hoon KO(1952- ), Jae-hyung HWANG(1952- ), Jong-gu LEE(1954- ), and Chi-kyun OH(1956- ). In contrast to the socalled ‘Art for Art’s sake’, this exhibition will explore various aspects of Korea’s Realism that appeared in the form of the societal, epochal and historical awareness and awakening; and it will be an opportunity to perceive Realism not as a mere intermittent flow of an epoch or a society, but as a continuing progression, a predominant flow that connects the past, present and future of Art in Korea.
