대구미술관은 대구포럼의 네 번째 전시로 《대구미술 1980-1989:형상의 소환》을 개최한다. 1980년대는 한국 사회가 전반적으로 새로운 국면을 맞이하며 변화의 출발점에 섰던 시대였다. 이러한 현실은 사회·경제·문화 전반의 모든 제도와 환경에 반영되었고 그 영향은 미술계에도 예외가 아니었다. 작가들은 시대의 격변을 온몸으로 체감하며 작품에 투영하였고, 시대정신의 상징물을 작업으로 형상화하였다.
대구 미술계에서는 특히 회화에서 뚜렷한 변화가 확인된다. 앞 시대의 실험과 행위미술의 주체들은 기존의 확장 운동에서 개성적인 심화 단계로 나아갔다. 특히, 비판과 은유, 표현과 상징이라는 두드러진 방식을 통해 예술과 삶이 서로 소통하며 새로운 조형 의식이 드러났다. 이번 전시는 시대적 변화의 흐름 속에서 당시 대구화단이 어떤 활동들을 펼쳤는지 1980년대 지역에서 제작되고 발표되었던 작품들을 소개하며 통찰해 보고자 한다.
Daegu Art Museum presents Daegu Art 1980–1989: To Figuration as the fourth exhibition in the Daegu Forum series. The 1980s were a transformative period in Korean society, marked by profound changes that resonated across social, economic, and cultural spheres-including the art scene. Artists internalized these shifts, reflecting the spirit of the times through symbolic representations in their work.
In Daegu’s painting scene, distinct transformations emerged. Experimental and performance artists from the previous era shifted from broader expansion to deeper, more personal explorations. Through criticism, metaphor, and symbolism, they engaged in a renewed dialogue between art and life, shaping a heightened artistic consciousness.
This exhibition examines Daegu’s evolving art scene amid these societal changes, highlighting works created and presented in the region during the 1980s.
