가나아트와 가나문화재단이 공동 주최하는 《불이(不二)–깨달음과 아름다움》은 불교의 핵심 사상인 ‘불이(不二)’를 주제로, 고대부터 현대에 이르는 불교미술의 미학과 사유를 아우르는 대규모 기획전이다.
이번 전시에서는 고려 불화 <관음·지장보살 병립도>와 <수월관음도>가 실물로는 최초로 공개되며, 나말여초 양식의 철조 석가여래좌상, 고려 충선왕이 발원한 사경 <섭대승론석론>, 문정왕후의 원력으로 제작된 조선 초기 금선묘 불화 <영산회상도> 등 귀중한 불교 유물들이 출품되어 주목된다. 또한 권진규의 대표작 <춘엽니>를 비롯해, 목조·테라코타·건칠로 제작된 그의 불상 4점이 한자리에 전시되며, 장욱진의 <팔상도>, 박생광의 <열반> 등 한국 근대 작가들의 불교 주제 작업도 전시된다. 동시대 작가군으로는 최종태, 박대성, 윤광조, 이화자, 서용 등이 참여해 불교 미학을 현대적 시각으로 재해석한 작품들을 선보인다. 아울러 가나아트센터 내 SPACE 97에서는 대한불교조계종 성파 종정스님의 대형 옻칠화와 추상회화를 통해 수행과 예술의 통합적 지평을 탐색한다.
《Non-Duality–Enlightenment and Beauty》 presents a wide range of cultural treasures spanning from the Goryeo to the Joseon dynasties. Among them are two Goryeo Buddhist paintings being unveiled to the public for the first time-<Water-Moon Avalokiteshvara> and <Avalokitesvara and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattvas in Parallel>(a rare twin-icon composition known as Byeongnipdo)-along with the early Joseon-period Vulture Peak Assembly, painted in fine gold lines. Visitors will also encounter modern Buddhistthemed works, including four sculptures by KWON Jinkyu and paintings by CHANG Ucchin, as well as contemporary reinterpretations of Buddhist aesthetics by artists such as CHOI Jongtae, PARK Daesung, YOON Kwangcho, SUH Yong, and LEE Hwaja. At SPACE 97, large-scale lacquer paintings by Venerable Seongpa-the Supreme Patriarch of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism-offer a profound union of meditation and artistic expression.
