《한국근현대미술명작전》은 고려대학교박물관이 오랜 시간에 걸쳐 수집하고 보존해 온 근·현대미술 걸작을 한자리에 모아, 20세기 초 개화기의 숨결부터 다원화된 미술의 발달에 이르기까지 한국 미술의 굵직한 흐름을 한눈에 조망하는 전시이다.
일제강점기의 억압과 저항, 6·25 전쟁의 폐허와 재건, 군사정권 아래의 통제와 반발, 민주화의 열기, 그리고 세계화 시대의 급격한 정보·문화 교류 속에서 한국의 미술가들은 각자의 작품에 시대정신을 고스란히 새겼다. 그들은 현실의 아픔과 소망을 화폭에 담으며, 시대적 갈등과 문화적 변화에 끊임없이 응답했다. 이번 전시는 이러한 흐름을 ‘계승(繼承)’·‘수용(受容)’·‘혁신(革新)’·‘자립(自立)’ 네 가지 섹션으로 나누어, 시대적·미술사적 맥락에서 한국 근현대미술이 걸어온 여정을 살펴보고자 한다. 관람객은 작품 한 점 한 점을 통해 한국 미술이 시대의 질문에 어떻게 응답하고, 전통과 현대를 아우르는 독자적인 예술언어를 어떻게 구축해 왔는지 확인할 수 있다.
The Masterpieces of Korean Modern and Contemporary Art brings together the masterpieces of modern and contemporary Korean art, which the Korea University Museum has collected and preserved over many years. It offers a comprehensive view of the major currents of Korean art—from the spirit of the Enlightenment Period in the early 20th century to the development of diversified artistic expressions.
Amid the oppression and resistance during the Japanese colonial era, the devastation and reconstruction following the Korean War, the control and defiance under military rule, the fervor of democratization, and the rapid exchange of information and culture in the era of globalization, Korean artists have embedded the spirit of each era into their works. This exhibition divides these artistic journeys into four sections: “Inheritance,” “Acceptance,” “Innovation,” and “Independence,” offering a historical and art-historical perspective on the evolution of modern and contemporary Korean art. Through each artwork, visitors can witness how Korean art has responded to the questions of its time, and how it has built its own artistic language to bridge tradition and modernity.
