국립아시아문화전당은 올해 개관 10주년을 맞아 기관의 첫걸음을 함께 한 세계적인 사운드 아티스트 료지 이케다와의 재회를 통해 지난 10년을 되돌아보고 기관의 융·복합 실험 정신을 기념하는 특별한 전시를 마련했다. 특히 이번 전시를 통해 지난 10년간 구축해온 창의적실험 결과를 재확인하고, 기술과 예술의 경계가 사라진 현시대에 예술이 나아갈 방향에 대해 고민한다. 이번 개인전에서는 신작 4점을 포함해 총 7점의 작품을 선보인다. <data.flux [n˚2]>는 DNA 데이터를 기반으로 한 기하학적 패턴이 천장에 설치된 10m 길이의 LED스크린을 끝없이 흐르는 작품으로 전시의 시작을 알리며 몰입의 경험을 선사한다. 또 다른 신작 <critical mass>는 가로, 세로 10m의 바닥 스크린에 투사된 검은 원과 흰빛의 극명한 대비와 신체를 울리는 전자음으로 관객의 감각을 증폭시킨다.
또한 <the sleeping beauty> 시리즈와 <data-verse>(2019-20) 3부작에서 파생된 <data.gram[n˚8]>도 이번 전시에서 최초로 공개한다.
Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the National Asian Culture Center(ACC) has organized a special exhibition to reunite with world-renowned sound artist Ryoji IKEDA, who took part in the center’s early days, as a way to reflect on the past decade and celebrate the ACC’s spirit of convergence and experimentation. In particular, this exhibition reaffirms the creative experimental results accumulated over the past decade and contemplates the direction of art in the present age, where the boundaries between technology and art have disappeared.
In this solo exhibition, a total of seven works will be showcased, including four new pieces. <data.flux [n˚2]> features geometric patterns based on DNA data flowing endlessly across a 10m-long LED screen, marking the start of the exhibition and offering an immersive experience. Another new work, <critical mass>, amplifies the audience’s senses through the stark contrast of black circles and white light projected onto a 10m×10m floor screen, accompanied by body-resonating electronic sounds. Also debuting at this exhibition are the <the sleeping beauty> series and <data.gram [n˚8]>, which is derived from the <data-verse(2019–20)> trilogy.
