전남도립미술관은 남도 수묵의 정신을 바탕으로 전통 미학을 오늘의 시각에서 새롭게 해석하는 지역작가 초대전을 꾸준히 이어오고 있다. 《김선두–색의 결, 획의 숨》은 전남 장흥 출생의 한국화가 김선두(1958- )가 40여 년간 탐구해 온 예술 여정을 조망하는 전시다. 〈남도 시리즈〉를 비롯해 〈낮별〉, 〈느린 풍경〉, 〈밤길〉, 〈아름다운 시절〉등 주요 연작을 통해 작가는 고향의 기억과 삶의 체험, 남도의 자연에서 길어 올린 사유를 독창적 조형 언어로 풀어낸다. 전통 장지 위에 색을 수십 번 쌓아 올리는 작업은 수행에 가까운 시간의 축적이며, 색은 ‘시간의 결’을 이루고 살아 있는 획은 그 안에 깃든 숨결을 드러낸다. 전시는 작가의 경험 흐름을 따라 구성된 네 개의 장과 ‘시와 그림’ 참여 공간을 통해 남도의길과 정서를 따라가는 서정적 리듬 속에서 김선두 회화와 한국화의 동시대적 가능성을 함께 제시한다.
The Jeonnam Museum of Art has continued to present invitational exhibitions featuring regional artists who reinterpret the aesthetics of traditional ink painting from a contemporary perspective, grounded in the cultural legacy of Namdo. 《KIM Sun Doo – Layers of Color, Breath of Stroke》 highlights the forty-year artistic journey of KIM Sun Doo, whose work explores the contemporary possibilities of Korean painting rooted in tradition. Featuring major series including <Namdo>, <Day Star>, and <Beautiful Days>, the exhibition traces a wide-ranging visual language shaped by reflections on everyday life and nature.
KIM’s practice centers on the jangji technique, in which layers of pigment and mineral color are repeatedly applied onto traditional Korean paper. These accumulated layers embody the passage of time and a meditative process, while the brushstroke reveals a living, rhythmic breath. Organized into four thematic sections, the exhibition follows the artist’s experiential trajectory—from the sensorial landscapes of Namdo to reflections on vitality, land, and the future of Korean painting.
