1981년 덕수궁 미술관에서‘청년작가’전을 시작으로 한국현대미술의 형성과 발전에 중요한 영향을 끼쳤던‘젊은모색’전이 올해로 30년이 되었다. 그 동안 전시를 통해 선보였던 327명의 젊은 작가들은 명실 공히 한국현대미술의 역사를 증명하는 대표적인 작가들로 성장하였고, 국내외를 통해 왕성한 활동을 보여주고 있다.
이번 전시에는 역대 전시 참여 작가 327명 중에서 선정된 43명의 작가들이 참여하였다. 전시실은 다변화된 현대미술의 가능성을 실험했던 1980년대‘청년작가’시기(제1전시실)와 1990년대 이후 눈부시게 가속화된 한국현대미술 성장사를 보여주는‘젊은모색’시기(제7전시실)로 구성되어 있으며, 각 시기별 주요 경향과 주제, 매체 별 특성을 살펴볼 수 있는 소규모 섹션으로 나뉘어져있다. 전시 출품작들은 각 시기의 대표적인 경향을 보여주는 역사적인 작품들과 이번 전시를 위한 신작들이 혼합되어 출품됨으로써, 한국현대미술의 과거와 현재, 미래를 입체적으로 조망할 수 있도록 구성되어 있다.
Having been inaugurated under the title of 'Korean Young Artists Biennial'in 1981 at Deoksugung Art Museum, Young Korean Artists has had a pivotal impact on the beginning and development of contemporary Korean art, and this year, it celebrates its 30th birthday.
In this show are featured 43 of those several hundreds of artists who have taken part in the previous shows. The exhibition space has largely two parts:Gallery 1 is for the period of Korean Young Artists Biennia lin the 1980s when diverse possibilities of contemporary art were testedout; in Gallery 7, one can observe the growth of contemporary Korean art which has been dazzlingly accelerated since the 1990s through the works exhibited during the period of Young Korean Artists. Also, each gallery is divided into smaller sections so that viewers can examine the major tendencies of each period and the distinctive qualities of each subject matter and art form. The exhibits consist of the art-historical works of each period and new works made to be first shown in this show, and this will help viewers to observe the past, present and future of contemporary Korean art.
