시간을 본 이는 아무도 없으나 우리는 시간을 따르며 살아가고 있다. 보다 정확히 말하자면 우리는 속도만을 체감한다. 그리고 시계를 보며 우리의 상대적 위치를 감지하는데, 시계라는 이 흥미로운 인류의 발명품은 보이지 않는 시간을 계측 가능하고 가시적인 것으로 전환시킨다. 시계 침의 똑딱거리는 움직임과 소리는 시간을 분절시키고, 그 분절된 시간과 함께 우리는 어쩔 수 없는 시대적 초조감과 함께 촌각을 다투며 살아간다. 그리고 보다 더 빠르고 가시적이며 신속한 것에 대한 체질은 보다 빨리 우리를 자극하고 해소시키는 무언가를 욕망하게 한다.
이번 전시는 문화적 편향이 지금의 삶의 시간성과 긴밀하게 닿아있는 것이 아닌가 하는 인식에서 촉발되었다. 소박하고 당연하나 평범치 않은 깨달음, 시간속에서 우리가 살아가고 있으며 그것은 물의 흐름과 번짐, 달의 차고 기움처럼 연속적이고 자연적일 수 있다는 성찰적 경험은 다양한 세대의 작가들이 보여주는 설치ㆍ영상ㆍ회화ㆍ수묵ㆍ조각 등의 작품을 통해 세월이 켜켜이 쌓인 공간, 자격루(自擊漏, 옛 물시계)가 옆에 자리한 덕수궁미술관에서 그 새로운 대화를 이루어낸다.

There is no one who actually saw the existence of hours, but we all live with it. To be more precise, we only experience the velocity of it. And we sense the relative position of time by a clock, that is an interesting device of human beings. It converts the time as something countable and visible. The ticking movement and the sound make us feel the hours as fragmentary, and the generation of us all live in a hectic sense of time. In result, it drives us to desire faster and quicker way of life. The exhibition reminds us that the artistic tendency of our times is closely related with the sense of feeling time, and attempts to show another aspect of time. This simple, clear but uncanny epiphany, that the hours can float as water and circulate as the moon, is realized through diverse generation of installation, video, painting, sculpture artworks in Deoksugung art museum, where the layers of time are accumulated in the space itself.
