‘OFF the WALL : 건축도자, 경계에서’전은 한국현대미술 분야의 예술가 김창열, 박서보, 심문섭, 이우환 등 총 15명의 순수예술작가들이 실험, 제작한 건축도자 작품을 선보이는 전시다.

예술가들은 미술관에서 진행된 워크숍에 참여하여 ‘흙’자체의 생명력과 물성을 탐구하고 자신의 고유한 장르를 벗어나 점토, 유약, 도판 등의 낯선 재료들로 새로운 작품을 시도하였다. 회화적 관점에서 그리고, 만들고, 빚은 실험적이고 독창적인 건축도자 작품인‘구운 그림’,‘ 구운 조각’과 예술과 산업의 상호작용을 통해 탄생된 전사타일작품 등이 전시되어 순수예술작품의 유한성을 극복하고 내구성, 내화성 등의 이점을 내포하는 흙으로 빚어진 독창적인 건축도자 작품을 보여준다.

이번 전시는 예술을 위한 예술이나 소수를 위한 예술을 지양하고, 장르와 공간의 한계를 넘어 모두가 함께 예술의 희열을 공유할 수 있는 공공을 위한 예술을지향하고 있다. 이번 기획전을 클레이아크 김해미술관은 통해 건축도자예술의 영역을 점진적으로 확장하고 궁극적으로는 건축도자 예술을 향유하는 이들의 문화 저변을 확대할 수 있는 계기를 마련하고 있다.


‘Off the Wall : Architectural Ceramics, On the Border’features by 15artists,Tschang-yeul Kim, Seo-bo Park, Moon-seup Shim, U-fan Lee, and so on. The 15 contemporary Korean artists participating in the workshop of this exhibition present new art styles and creative artistic worlds,employing materials(clay, glaze, ceramic plate) completely unfamiliar to them in their own experimental, distinctive techniques.

This exhibition bring together stellar artworks and aims to strengthen the popularity of art through which both creators and appreciators of art can share joy, rejecting art for art’s sake and art only for a minority of artists and experts. Through this exhibition the museum intends to gradually extend the sphere of architectural ceramic art to the public space. It is hoped the show will serve as an opportunity to create new lovers of architectural ceramics.
