삼성미술관리움은 2011년 첫 기획전으로 개항 이후 일제 강점기와 전쟁과 분단, 정치적 민주화와 급속한 경제 성장을 겪어 온 20세기 한국 사회를 시각문화 중심으로 되돌아 봄으로써 현재 우리 삶의 모습들과 문화정체성의 의미를 찾아보는 ‘코리안 랩소디 : 역사와 기억의 몽타주’전을 선보인다.
이인성·이쾌대·구본창·김수자 등 작가들의 작품과 더불어 정연두·최정화·조덕현 등의 신작을 1부 ‘근대의 표상들(1876-1945)’과 2부 ‘낯선 희망(1945-2011)’으로 나누어 미술사에 남겨진 역사적인 작품들과 현대 작가들이 역사와 기억을 재해석한 작품들이 함께 아우러지며 우리 과거와 현재의 모습을 촘촘히 재현한다. 이와 함께 일본 메이지 시대(1868-1912)의 우키요에 자료들과 일제 강점기와 해방 후의 사회상을 보여 주는 사진 아카이브·영상·다큐멘터리·문학 등을 포괄하는 다양한 시각 자료들을 미술 작품들과 교차하여 배치함으로써 장르 융합적인 전시를 도모하고 우리가 살아 온 시대의 모습을 입체적으로 조망하고있다. 이번 전시를 통해 한국 근대사를 역사의 개념이 아닌 ‘이미지’로 읽어나가는 재미를 느낄 수 있을 것이다.
Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art begins 2011 with its first special exhibition,‘Korean Rhapsody : Montage of History and Memory’. The exhibition will focus on developments in the Korean society throughout the 20th century by looking back on important historical incidents such as Japanese occupation, Korean war and political struggles for democracy. It attempts to find a worthy cause in both our present way of life and also in our cultural identity.
Works in the caliber of Lee In-sung, Lee Que-de, new works by Jung Yeon-doo, Choi Jeong-hwa, as well as reference materials in Ukiyo-e from the Japanese Meiji period(1868-1912), depicting Korea during the Japanese occupation, are presented in the exhibition. Korean history is displayed in different genres in art and at the same time, the exhibition reflects on Korea’s past periods with more dimension. This exhibition hopes to offer an interesting opportunity for the public to read Korea’s modern history through ‘images’ rather than focusing on historical conceptions.
