소마미술관
조각공원 속 미술관으로서 소마미술관은 2004년 개관전 ‘정지와 움직임’을 시작으로 조각을, 2006년에는 드로잉센터 개관과 함께 드로잉을, 즉 조각과 드로잉이라는 두 가지 키워드로 집약되는 전시 활동을 해왔다.
조각가의 드로잉은 올림픽공원 내 조각 작품과 연계하여 조각가의 창조적 아이디어를 엿볼 수 있는 드로잉을 전시함으로써 조각 작품의 가치와 의미를 재조명하고, 조각과 드로잉으로 수렴하는 소마미술관의 정체성을 환기하고자 기획되었다. 조각공원에 세워져 있는 기념비적인 조각 작품들에서 ‘중력’과 ‘덩어리’를 중시하는 전통적 조각의 개념을 살펴볼 수 있다면, 미술관 전시실에서는 현대로 오면서 점차 확장된 조각의 양상을 볼 수 있는데, 이때 전통적 조각 개념의 해체 과정은 ‘드로잉’의 개념 확장과 밀접한 관계가 있다. 이러한 조각과 드로잉의 연관성에 주목하면서, 전시는 조각적 구현을 위한 드로잉, 독립된 장르로서의 드로잉, 조각적인 것의 개념 확장을 위한 드로잉의 역할 등 세 부분으로 나누어진다.
이번 전시에는 강은엽, 강태성, 김영원, 김청정, 박불똥, 박상숙, 박석원, 엄태정, 윤석남, 이승택, 이우환, 이종각, 이종빈, 이형구, 전준, 조성묵, 최만린, 최인수, 홍성도 등 총 19명의 작가가 참여하였다.
SOMA concentrates on sculpture and drawing, presenting Stillness and Movement in 2004 as its inaugural exhibition, and then establishing a drawing center in 2006.
Sculptors' Drawing is designed to reilluminate the value and meaning of sculpture, and recall the museum's identity as an art space concentrating on sculpture and drawing, through a display of sculptors' drawings showing their creative ideas, relating to sculptures in Olympic Park. The concept of conventional sculpture underlining ‘gravity’ and ‘mass’ appears in monumental sculptures in the park, while expanded aspects of sculpture are exhibited in the museum. A deconstruction of conventional sculpture associates with an expansion of drawing. Correlating sculpture and drawing, the show is divided into three main sections, Drawing for embodying the sculptural ; Drawing as an independent genre ; The role of drawing in a conceptual expansion of the sculptural.
In this exhibition, 19 artists participated ; Euny-up Kang, Tae-sung Kang, Young-won Kim, Chung-jung Kim, Bul-ddong Park, Sang-sook Park, Suk-won Park, Tai-jung Um, Suk-nam Yun, Seung-taek Lee, U-fan Lee, Jong-kak Lee, Jong-bin Lee, Hyung-koo Lee, Joon Chon, Sung-mook Cho, Man-lin Choi, In-su Choi and Sung-do Hong.
