삼성미술관리움
삼성미술관리움은 개관 7주년을 기념하여 조선화원대전(朝鮮畵員大展)을 개최한다. 이번 전시는 5년 만에 리움에서 열리는 고미술 기획전으로 조선시대 회화사에서 문인화와 함께 중요한 한 축을 차지한 화원을 본격적으로 조명하는 최초의 전시이다.
화원은 도화서에 소속되어 각종 공적 업무를 수행하였던 예술가 집단으로, 왕실의 각종 공적 업무를 수행하였고, 화단에서도 여러 화가, 후원자들과 교류하며 수준높은 작품들을 남겼다. 화원들은 왕실과 조정의 각종 행사와 업무를 기록하고 장식하여, 국가의 권위와 통치이념을 형상화함과 동시에 사적으로도 가장 속된 그림에서부터 관념산수에 이르기까지 다양한 작품을 제작하였다.
‘화원의 붓, 왕실의 권위를 세우다’에서는 왕실과 조정의 각종 회사에 참여했던 화원들의 공적 활동을 전시하였다. 또한 ‘화원의 붓, 조선을 그리다’에서는 화원들이 조선 화단에서 활동하며 이룩한 업적과 그들의 예술혼을 조명하였다. 이들의 작품을 통해 조선 최고의 예술가들이었던 화원들이 다양한 분야에서 발휘했던 미의식과 작품세계를 살펴볼 수 있는 전시이다.
Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art presents its special exhibition, The Court Painters of Joseon Dynasty, from October 13th to January 29th, 2012. The exhibition highlights the exemplar painters in Joseon Dynasty(Hwawon) and their diverse activities as revealed through their excellent and impressive paintings.
This exhibition is divided in two parts: ‘The Court Painter's Brush: Forming Authority’ and ‘The Court Painter's Brush: Painting Chosun’ with various genres.
‘Forming Authority’ shows records of processions in Royal Processions, banquet and ornamental paintings in Royal Ceremonial and Decorative Paintings, and portraits and illustrations in Royal Official and Documentary Paintings. This section is comprised of works that effectively portray the activities at the royal household, palaces, events and functions, and official duties and tasks. ‘Painitng Joseon’ exhibits private works of the famed and representative Hwawon, who formed new artistic trends in meeting their patron's desires and creating works reflecting contemporary subjects and popular styles. In particular, their influence in creating new trend for vivid portrayals of quotidian activities in the late 18th century genre paintings was significant.
