‘미술경작’은 집약적인 노고를 쌓아 만드는 수행과도 같은 작가의 창작행위와 이를 운용하는 작가정신을 지칭한다. 참여 작가들은 다양한 한국미술의 흐름 속에 주목 받고 있다.
작품의 주제들은 역사 속의 인물이나 주변의 이미지를 독자적 이미지로 바꾸며 일상의 새로운 해석과 의식의 전환을 추구하고 현대미술의 한 장르를 정립하고자 하는 의지를 보여준다. 이들의 공통점은 작업방법이 집요하게 반복하여 그리거나 오려내는 것이다.
그 결과 붓 터치나, 점, 종이의 오리기, 개념적인 행위들이 쌓이고 쌓여 작품이 만들어진다. 이 집적은 현대미술의 한 패러다임이며 변하지 않는 물성의 특성을 드러내기도 한다. 이러한 특성을 새로운 이디엄(idiom)으로 구축하고, 나아가 미술의 명확한 특징으로 부각하는 계기가 되고자 한다.
참여작가는 김동유, 노주용, 민성식, 박계훈, 박능생, 오윤석, 윤종석, 이민혁, 함명수, 허구영이다.
‘Art Cultivation’ describes the ascetic process of creating art through cumulative labor, as well as the spirit of the artist invested in this process. The artists of ‘Art Cultivation’ are receiving attention in the world of Korean art, since their artistic identity strives to transform perceptions of their surroundings and historical fixtures into innovative conceptual imagery.
Furthermore they endeavor to establish a new genre of contemporary art through novel interpretations of ordinary life and a revolution of consciousness. These artists are unified by their tireless processes of meticulously and iteratively painting or cutting.
One must take care to accurately weigh their accumulative process and the intention at its root, as this embodies an incipient paradigm of contemporary Korean art, and is moreover an essential feature of these works. This exhibition shall allow us to define this feature as a new idiom in au courant discourse and establish it as a distinct quality in art.
