광주시립미술관은 개관 20주년을 맞이하여 국내와 남도작가 대표작품을 모은 전시인 ‘두 개의 모더니즘’과 1990년대 이후 한국미술의 주요 경향을 다룬 ‘진(進). 통(通).’을 개최한다.
‘두 개의 모더니즘’은 모더니즘을 확립한 구상회화와 추상회화 작품 전시를 통해 한국미술의 큰 틀 속에서 남도미술이 차지하는 위치를 조명하고자 한다. 또한, 우리의 삶의 모습과 풍경을 재현한 구상회화 그리고 앵포르멜, 모노크롬 등 추상 회화를 통해 한국미술의 모더니즘 흐름을 살펴볼 수 있는 의미를 지닌다.
‘1990년대 이후 한국현대미술 : 진(進). 통(通).’은 90년대 포스트모더니즘이 확산하며 나타난 다원화 양상을 한국미술의 전진을 위한 제 현상으로, 2000년대의 사회·문화·개인과 일상에 관한 다양한 관심을 소통의 과정으로 파악한다. 전시는 일상의 변용, 테크놀로지의 활용, 비판적 개념적 제 경향 등으로 구성되며, 홍경택, 권기수, 백남준, 육근병, 이이남, 홍성담, 김아타, 허진, 강운, 이재효, 이명호, 양문기 등 30여 명의 작품을 통해 한국현대미술의 진통의 과정을 확인하는 기회가 될 것이다.
The Gwangju Museum of Art will commemorate its 20th year with two special exhibitions : ‘Two Modernisms’ which brings together signature art works from Jeollanam-do and Korea, and ‘Jin(Advance), Tong (Communication)’, which follows major trends in Korean art from the 1,990s.
‘Two Modernisms’ is an exhibition of figurative and abstract works which shed light on the important role of Jeollanam-do art in the wider scheme of Korean art. It also examines how modernism runs through Korean art, in figurative works capturing local lives and landscapes, as well as through various abstract works such as Informel and monochromatic paintings.
‘Korean Modern Art since the 1,990s : Jin(Advance), Tong(Communication)’ explores diverse phases in the advance of Korean modern art which appeared with the spread of postmodernism in the 1990s. It further examines a communication process involved with various social and cultural issues as well as phenomena associated with individuals and daily life in the 2,000s. The exhibition is centered on the themes of changes in daily lives, practical use of technology, and critical and conceptual trends. It will be a chance to experience the ‘Jin, Tong’ concept, going forward with and passing through Korean modern art with works by 30 artists such as Kyoung-tack Hong, Ki-soo Kwon, Nam-june Paik, Keun-byung Yook, Lee-nam Lee, Sung-dam Hong, Atta Kim, Hur Jin, Kang Un, Jae-hyo Lee, Myoung-ho Lee, Mun-gi Yang and others.
