한국 근현대미술 거장 : 아름다운 열정, 박수근·이중섭 Beautiful Passion of Park Soo keun and Lee Jung Seop

아트선재미술관이 우양미술관으로 이름을 바꾸고 그 새로운 출발을 알리는 첫 전시는 한국 현대미술에 있어 가장 뚜렷한 기억을 남긴 두 거장의 대표작을 심도 있게 조명해 봄으로써 새롭게 출발하는 미술관으로서의 지향점을 모색해 본다는 데 의미를 가지고 있다. 박수근은 돌을 연상하는 질감으로 20세기 전반 고된 삶 속에서도 희망과 따스함을 잃지 않았던 우리의 정서를 화폭에 옮긴 작가로 유명하다.

 

 이번 전시에는 마티에르 기법이 돋보이는 작품 <빨래터>, <노상의 여인들> 등이 출품된다. 이중섭은 대담하고 거친 선묘로 굴곡진 시대의 삶을 담아내는 표현적 특징을 지니고 있다. 이번 전시에서는 담배 내부에 있는 은지에 그린 <아이들> 연작이 출품된다. ‘아이’는 이중섭 작품의 주요 모티프로 전시장에서 다양한 색채로 은지와 캔버스에 담은 아이들의 모습을 확인해볼 수 있을 것이다.  이번 전시는 20세기 전반기 모더니즘의 대표주자 박수근과 이중섭이 생전에 중요하게 생각했던 소재를 중심으로 이들 작가들이 힘겹게 반석 위에 올린 한국적 모더니즘의 모습을 우리는 깊은 감응과 더불어 새로운 깊이를 다시금 가늠해볼 수 있는 뜻 깊은 기회가 될 것이다.

Artsonje Museum is presenting “The Exhibition of Korean Modern and Contemporary Artists – Beautiful Passion of Park Soo Keun and Lee Jung Seop,” the first exhibition to commemorate its new beginning in the name of Wooyang Museum. The exhibition embodies greater meaning by deeply exploring the works of two masters, whose works have made strong remarks in the history of Korean modern art. Park Sookeun is famous for painting with strong matière that is stone-like, successfully portraying hopeful message within the people’s lives during tough time period of early twentieth century. The works in this exhibition, such as ‘A Wash Place’ and ‘Women of Street’, stood out for its rough texture. Lee Jung Seop (1916 –1956) had unique style of expression to describe lives of people during turbulent years in Korea by using bold and wild brushstrokes.

 In this exhibition, the series of “Children” on silver paper inside cigarette case will be on display. ‘Child’ was the main motif of Lee Jung Seop’s work, and this time audience will have the opportunity to explore figures of children in various colors on silver papers and canvases. The exhibition at Wooyang Museum consists of the works that include important subject matters that these artists valued during their lifetime. It will offer a meaningful opportunity to rediscover potential of two painters, whose contribution became basis of Korean modernism.
