신화와 전설 : 잃어버린 세계로의 여행 Myth & Legend : A Journey to the Lost World

고양 600년을 기념해 기획된 이번 전시는 현대인들에게 잃어버린 내면세계와 상상력을 회복하는 일의 중요성에 대해 말한다. 전시는 국내외 작가 총 15명이 90여 점의 작품으로 참여하였다. 

단군신화 이전의 마고신화에 대해 집중한 서용선의 작품을 통해 동양과 한국 신화의 새로운 측면을 제시하였다. 또한, 최근 주목받고 있는 외국작가 카라 워커, 미와 야나기, 피나리 산피탁 등의 작품을 한 자리에서 감상할 좋은 기회이기도 하다. 그 외에도 신화적 모티브를 이용해 현대미술의 철학적 사유를 담아낸 권여현, 한국의 무속신앙을 표현한 박생광, 환상과 상상의 세계를 극사실적으로 재현하는 김현수, 창조의 씨앗을 표현한 윤정희 작가의 작품을 만날 수 있다. 마지막으로 고양 명칭 사용 600년을 기념하기 위해 고양의 주요 전설을 미국, 이란, 호주, 한국 작가 6인의 예술적 상상력을 통해 재해석하는 과정을 거쳐 새로운 고양전설을 보여주었다.

‘Myth and Legend’ exhibition is an exhibition for modern people to find the lost world of inner world and recovering imagination. The exhibition is constituted 90 artworks by 15 artists.

First section is a place to invite you to the world of ‘Myth and Legend’. Myth also has structure of circulation like human life. Beginning from myth of creation of universe and origin, it finds enlightenment through hero’s birth and adventure and brings benefit to people. And it opens to gate of new creation as ending of reproduction. You can meet 4artists Kim Hyun Soo, Kara Walker, Pinaree Sanpitak, Yoon Jung Hee in this section. Section2 is an area for reinterpretation of meaning of myth through works of artist, who can be called as shaman of today. Park Saneng Kwang, Suh Yong Sun, Shin Eel Suk, Kwon Yeo Hyun, Miwa Yanagi, 5 major artists re-interpret the meaning myth like ancient time’s shaman. Section3 is legend of Goyang. There are works that created through the process of re-interpretation of Goyang’s major legend with artistic imagination for 600years anniversary celebration of naming of ‘Goyang’. Rather than describing existing contents of fables, we have requested artists to freely express according to their own artistic sensitivity. This way has made a success of re-born of new Goyang legend by giving prominence to the meaning of imagination of myth.
