삼성미술관리움 Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art (I-10)

삼성미술관리움은 2014년, 개관 10주년을 맞아 아트스펙트럼의 형식을 변화시켰다. 미술관 소속 큐레이터뿐만 아니라 동일한 숫자의 외부 선정위원들에게도 작가 추천을 의뢰하였고, 전체 토론을 통해 변화와 혁신, 창의를 주도하는 젊은 작가 10인을 선정하였다. 또한, 열린 추천으로 더욱 다양해진 작가들을 대상으로 창작 의지를 고취하기 위해 전시 기간 중 심사위원단이 1인을 선정하여 아트스펙트럼 작가상을 수여할 예정이다.

이번 전시에 참여하는 김민애, 박보나, 송호준, 심래정, 이완, 이은실, 장현준, 정희승, 제니 조, 천영미 작가는 폭넓은 주제로 현대미술의 경계를 탐구한다. 사회시스템과 개인의 관계를 탐구해온 이완은 <메이드 인> 시리즈를 통해 한 나라의 산업화 과정을 직접 재연하고 개인의 삶이 세계와 연결되는 지점을 보여준다. 작가가 직접 그린 손 그림에서 시작된 심래정의 영상작품 <밤하늘을 나는 새>는 삶과 죽음이라는 무거운 주제를 일상적 존재처럼 다루며, 장현준은 <(    )/수행>에서 건축가인 아버지가 만든 구조물 내부에서 퍼포먼스를 펼치며 가족관계를 탐구한다.

회화나 조각 같은 전통적인 매체뿐 아니라 사진, 설치, 영상, 퍼포먼스 등 장르를 가로지르는 10인 작가들의 작품에서 동시대 한국미술의 현황을 확인할 수 있다.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Leeum Samsung Museum of Art has made some changes to the museum’s biennial ARTSPECTRUM series. This year, a panel of outside art specialists joined Leeum’s curators in discussing and reviewing the works of potential artists for selection. A total of ten Korean artists demonstrating potential to lead change, innovation and creativity were chosen for the exhibition through debate and discussion. In efforts to further encourage young creative will, the museum will also inaugurate a newly created “ARTSPECTRUM Award” to bestow upon one of the participating artists during the course of the exhibition.

Min-ae Kim, Bo-na Park, Ho-jun Song, Rae-jung Shim, Lee Wan, Eun-sil Lee, Hyun-joon Chang, Hee-seung Chung, Jenny Cho, and Young-mi Chun explore and challenge the boundaries of contemporary art from different vantage points with wide ranges of subject matter. Lee Wan, who has persistently questioned the relationship between social systems and the individual through his work, re-enacts the process of industrialization and pinpoints the position of the individual within the global economy in his <Made In> series. In her hand drawn animation <A Bird Flying in the Night : Parade of Night>, Rae-jung Shim deals with grim subject matter, including death, as if they are a part of her everyday. In <(   )/form>, performance artist Hyun-joon Chang considers the meaning of family by performing within the structure built by his architect father.

By introducing the ten artists’ wide-ranging art practices, the exhibition aims to present the diverse ambitions fueling contemporary Korean art today.
