 국립현대미술관은 (사)도코모모코리아와 공동 기획으로 《장소의 재탄생: 한국근대건축의 충돌과 확장》전을 9월 23일부터 12월 14일까지 서울관 제8전시실에서 선보인다. 특히 이번 전시는 한국의 근대건축물들이 역동적인 우리의 근대화 과정에서 만들어지고 성장하는 흐름을 추적하며, 생명력을 지속하기 위한 재탄생 과정에 주목하였다. 연대기적인 설명이 아닌 근대건축의 단편들을 시간과 사건의 얼개로 구성하고, 그 속에 담긴 충돌과 확장의 순간들을 20여 점의 건축물과 2,000여 점의 아카이브 자료를 통해 살펴본다. 

 전시는 ‘사라진 기억’, ‘풍경의 재현’, ‘주체의 귀환’, ‘권력의 이양’, ‘연결될 미래’ 등 총 다섯 섹션으로 구성된다. 각 섹션에는 근대건축의 재탄생 과정을 당시 엽서, 신문, 영상을 비롯하여 미공개 건축도면, 지도, 스케치 등 다양한 매체로 보여주고 있다. <장소의 재탄생: 한국근대건축의 충돌과 확장> 전은 대중들에게 건축의 시간성과 그것의 보존 및 활용에 대한 가치를 환기하는 계기가 될 것이다.

The National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (MMCA) is co-hosting an exhibition titled Rebirth of Place: Expansion & Conflict of the Korean Modern Architecture in collaboration with Docomomo Korea from Sep. 23 to Dec. 14 inside Gallery 8 of the MMCA Seoul. The exhibition is particularly focused on the process of the rebirth to sustain vitality by tracing the trends in which modern buildings in Korea are created and developed in a dynamic modernization process. Fragments of modern architecture are organized by structures of time and events rather than by chronological explanations, and the moments of expansion and conflict within them can be examined from over 20 buildings and 2,000 pieces of archived materials.

The exhibition is classified into five sections: ‘Forgotten Memories’,’Representation of Landscape’, ‘Recalling the Subject, ‘Transfer of Power’, and ‘Future to be Continued’. Each section shows the rebirth process of modern architecture through materials from mass media such as postcards, newspapers and video clips, as well as various types of media such as undisclosed blueprints, maps and sketches. This Exhibition will provide an opportunity for the public to call attention to the temporality of architecture and the value of its preservation and use.
