대전시립미술관에서는 과학과 예술의 융복합을 실천하는 격년제 국제미술행사인 <프로젝트대전 2014>를 개최하고 있다. 과학예술실행을 표방하는 프로젝트대전은 2012년에 ‘에너지’를 주제로 이미 첫 행사를 진행한 바 있다. 이번 에디션은 ‘뇌’를 주제로 4곳에서 9개국 50명 작가(팀)의 작품 99점을 선보인다. 대전시립미술관에서는 <인간의 뇌 : 제2의 자연>을 위해 뇌과학에 기반을 둔 테크놀로지를 중심으로 인간의 뇌 구조와 기능 그리고 그 작용으로부터 파생된 키워드를 중심으로 작품들을 전시한다. 카이스트 KI 빌딩에서는 <인공의 뇌 : 로봇은 진화한다>라는 타이틀로 인간과 로봇 간의 공존과 진화를 다각도로 접근하고 있다. 대전시립미술관 창작센터에서는 2014년 봄부터 예술가들이 직접 대덕연구개발 특구와 카이스트를 방문하며 이룬 과학예술융합의 성과물을 시민들에게 보고하는 <아티스트(ArtiST)프로젝트> 전시가 펼쳐지고 있다. 마지막으로 대전 원도심에 위치한 대전스카이로드에서는 인간의 인식에 관한 다채로운 이야기가 다섯 개의 영상작품을 통해 흐른다. <프로젝트대전2014>를 위해 한 데 모인 작가들은 마음이 뇌 신경 망의 물질작용임을 입증함으로써 인간존재와 인간의 삶에 관한 이해를 확장한다. 결과적으로 ‘프로젝트대전’은 융합시대인 오늘날 그 만남을 대표하는 실행프로젝트로서 과학과 예술의 이론적 융합을 넘어 실질적인 실천인 셈이다. 대전의 과학기술 인프라를 적극적으로 활용하며 추진된 프로젝트 대전은 문화예술프로젝트로서 과학도시 대전의 정체성을 문화도시로 확장하는 데에 적극적으로 기여한다. 

The biennial international art festival Project Daejeon is being held at Daejeon Museum of Art now. It is the project which aims for the convergence of art and science. Claiming to practise science-art. the first event of Project Daejeon was organized in 2012 under the subject of 'energy'. This year's exhibition concerns 'the brain' as its theme and shows 99 art works created by 50 artists(teams) from 9 countries, which are displayed at four different venues. Daejeon Museum of Art presents the exhibition titled "Human Brain: The Second Nature", where particular works related to diverse technologies based on brain sciences are shown. Those works deal with the structure and function of human brains, and try to illustrate some connotative keywords on that. Another exhibition titled "Artificial Brain: The Robot is Evolving" is organized at KAIST KI building, which describes various approaches on the evolution of robots, and investigates the relations between man and robots too. In addition, DMA Art Center presents artist Project. This is the project for promoting collaboration between art and science. In order to do that, all participating artists often visited both KAIST ad Daedeok Science Town, so that they could develop their ideas along with scientists. Finally, 5 video works has been set up on Daejeon Sky Road, which show different views on human recognition. The artists who take part in Project Daejeon 2014: The Brain attempt to broaden our perspective on human being and human life, proving that mind is a kind of materialistic function operated by the brain neural network. As a result, Project Daejeon could be regarded as a performative event which mobilizes communication between two different sectors beyond limits of theoretical convergence of them. This exhibition is, then, not just theoretical consideration, but actual practise. Actively utilizing the infrastructure of science-technology Daejeon has, Project Daejeon, a cultural event, tries to effectively contribute to establish the city’s identities not only as a science, city, but also as a cultural city.
