우리 문화의 멋과 민화 The Beauty of Korean cultuer and Minhwa

고양문화재단 아람미술관은 서민들의 생활모습이나 정신세계가 드러나는 자유로운 상상의 회화인 ‘민화’를 주제로 ‘우리 문화의 멋과 민화’ 전을 개최한다. 조선시대의 궁중회화와 사대부의 그림 토대 위에 자신들만의 예술세계를 재창조한 민화는 한국적 미의식과 정체성을 대표하면서도 오늘날 독창성과 개성을 중시하는 현대미술의 정신과 맞닿아 있다. 

이번 전시는 조선 후기의 민화부터 민화의 특징을 현대 미술에 접목해 새로운 예술세계를 탄생시킨 작품까지 선보인다. 민화에 내재한 이미지와 색채의 주술성, 힘에 주목한 박생광, 민화가 가진 소재의 해학성과 표현의 자유로움을 추구한 김기창, 유양옥 등을 비롯해 문자추상의 이응로, 남관 등과 이희중, 김근중, 서희화, 류준화, 서은애, 홍지연, 김지평 등을 소개한다. 이번 전시는 민화에서 주로 그렸던 주제인 꽃과 새, 동물, 산수, 인물 그리고 문자와 문방 등 다섯 섹션으로 나뉘어 구성된다.

ARAM Art Museum will hold ‘The beauty of Korean culture and Minhwa(Korean folk paintings) showing lifestyle and mentality for the forefather of Koreans. Minwha was recreated by paintings which royal family and Sadaebu(the Literati Class) enjoyed in the Joseon Dynasty. Also, Minwha represents not only Korean aesthetic consciousness and identity but the spirit of modern art which requires originality and personality nowaday. This exhibition provides an opportunity to experience the traditional Minhwa in the late Joseon Dynasty and modern paintings that are related to Minhwa.

This exhibition introduces the artists Park Saeng-kwang- focused on the totemic power from the images and colors of Minwha, Kim Ki-chang and Yu Yang-ok sought the freedom of expression and humor of Minwha, Lee Ung-no and Nam Kwan are famous for abstract letter paintings, also Lee Wal-chong, Lee Hee-joong, Kim Kun-joong, Kim Sun-doo, Seo Hee-wha, Ryou Jun-wha, Seo Eun-ae, Hong Jiyeon, Kim Ji-pyeong, etc. The exhibition space are separated by five sections-flowers, animals, landscape, portraits, letters and still-lifes, which are important subjects in Minwha.
