청주시는 인간의 삶과 밀접한 관계에서 피어나는 공예 특유의 힘과 한국공예의 아름다움 등을 전 세계에 알리기 위해 1999년부터 격년제로 공예•디자인 전 분야를 다루는 청주국제공예비엔날레를 개최해왔다. 오는 9월 16일부터 10월 25일까지 40일간 옛 청주연초제조창에서 개최되는 ‘2015청주국제공예비엔날레’는 ‘HANDS+ 확장과 공존’을 주제로 공예, 그 이상의 가치를 풀어내고자 했다. 기획전 ‘잇고 또 더하라: The Making Process’는 인간의 손과 공예라는 관계를 제작 과정에서 조명하며 새로운 기술과 재료의 창조적 활용, 현대 공예의 새로운 발전 가능성을 제시한다. 알랭 드 보통이 비엔날레 특별전 예술감독을 맡아 젊은 작가 15인과 함께 창작전시를 선보인다. 8회까지 축적된 경험을 바탕으로 한 기획전에서부터 시민과 함께한 미디어프로젝트, 첨단산업과 동적 요소를 접목한 전시 및 체험프로그램, 아동과 청소년의 눈높이에 맞춘 키즈비엔날레, 다양한 체험프로그램과 문화 이벤트까지. 수준 높은 전시에 재미까지 더해진 ‘2015청주국제공예비엔날레’에서 가을 정취를 만끽할 수 있다.
Since 1999, the City of Cheongju has been hosting the Cheongju International Craft Biennale dedicated to the entire field of craft and design, with the aim to share the unique power of craft developed through its intimate
relationship with human life, and the beauty of Korean craft with the world. The 2015 Cheongju International Craft Biennale will be held over a period of 40 days from September 16 to October 25 at the Old Cheongju Tobacco Processing Plant, exploring craft and beyond under the theme “HANDS + : Expansion & Coexistence.” The Making Process, the main exhibition of the Biennale, highlights the relationship between the human hand and craft within the context of production processes, and presents opportunities for the creative utilization of new technology and materials and moreover for the development of contemporary craft. Alain de Botton, the artistic director of the Biennale’s special exhibition, presents a creative exhibition featuring the works of 15 artists. The 2015 Cheongju International Craft Biennale will offer an opportunity to enjoy autumn to the full through both its high-quality exhibitions and entertainment. These include the main exhibition that is built on the experience and knowledge accumulated through past eight events, citizen-led media projects, exhibitions and hands-on activities combining high-tech industry and interactive elements, as well as the kids’ biennale catering for children and teens, and offering diverse experiential programs and cultural events.
