조각가 김영원은 지난 50여 년간 인체라는 형상을 출발점으로 그 정형성을 끊임없이 부정하고 해체하며 새로운 조형 언어를 모색해왔다. 그의 작업은 깎아내고, 덧붙이고, 다시 무너뜨리는 반복적 행위 속에서 형상이 더 이상 고정된 결과가 아니라 생성과 변형의 과정임을 드러낸다. 이러한 조각적 사유는 ‘형상을 만드는 일’을 넘어 ‘형상을 넘어서는 일’로 확장된다.
이번 전시는 미술관의 첫 전시로서, 김영원의 작품 세계를 보여주는 단순한 개인전이 아니라, 관람객이 조각, 회화, 미디어 등 다양한 작품을 통해 울림과 공명의 경험을 직접 느낄 수 있도록 초대하는 자리다. 여기서 공명이란 단순한 소리나 흔들림이 아니라, 서로 다른 존재들이 만나 감각을 주고받으며 변화를 만들어내는 관계적 경험을 뜻한다. 관람객은 작품의 형상을 보다 어느 순간 그 경계를 넘어, 자신 역시 하나의 울림으로 이 공간에 참여하고 있음을 감각하게 될 것이다.
Over the past five decades, sculptor KIM Young won has taken the human form as a point of departure, continuously negating and deconstructing its fixity in search of a new sculptural language. His work reveals that form is no longer a fixed result but a process of generation and transformation, emerging through repetitive acts of carving away, adding, and collapsing. This sculptural inquiry expands beyond “making form” toward “transcending form.” This exhibition has been organized as the opening exhibition of the Gimhae Kimyoungwon Museum of Art.
As the museum’s first exhibition, it is not merely a solopresentation of the artist’s work, but an invitation for visitors to directly experience resonance and vibration through a variety of works spanning sculpture, painting, and media. Here, resonance does not simply refer to sound or vibration, but to a relational experience in which different beings encounter one another, exchange sensations, and generate change. At a certain moment, as viewers engage with the forms, they will cross beyond their boundaries and come to sense that they themselves are participating in this space as a resonance.
