2023년 뮌헨하우스데어쿤스트에서 기획되어 로마 국립 21세기 미술관(MAXXI), 홍콩 M+로 순회하며 확장되어 온 《다른 공간 안으로》는 미술사에서 오랫동안 누락되어 온 여 성 작가들의 선구적 ‘환경’ 작업을 처음으로 재조명한다. 이 전시는 1956년 일본 구타이 미술전에서 소개된 야마자키 츠루코의 〈빨강〉에서부 터 1976년 제37회 베네치아비엔날레의 《환경/예술》 전시까지 약 20년간의 시기를 다루 면서 미술사의 빠져 있는 조각을 채워 넣고자 기획되었다. 그리고 아시아, 유럽, 남·북미를 아우르는 여성 작가 11인의 환경 작품이 실물 크기로 재구성된다. 작가들의 파격적이고 선구적인 예술 공간을 보여주며 새로운 매체와 기술을 적극적으로 수용한 여성 작가들에 주목한다. 또한 관람객을 예술의 ‘다른 공간 안으로’ 이끌고 능동적인 주체로 변화시키면 서 예술을 공공의 영역으로 변화시킨 작가들의 혁신적인 시도와 비전을 직접 경험할 수 있도록 한다.
Leeum Museum of Art presents 《Inside Other Spaces: Environments by Women Artists 1956-1976》. Conceived by Haus der Kunst Munich in 2023, this exhibition re-examines the history of trailblazing "environments" made by women artists that had long been excluded from the history of art. The exhibition spans roughly two decades, from Tsuruko YAMAZAKI’s 〈Red〉 introduced in 1956 to the year 1976, when 《Ambiente/Arte》, the 37th Venice Biennale was presented. It features full-scale reconstructions of eleven major works by women artists from Asia, Europe, and North and South America By systematically re-illuminating the pioneering artistic spaces, this exhibition focuses on women artists who actively embraced new media and technologies. Furthermore, the exhibition leads visitors “inside other spaces” of art, transforming them into active subjects and offering a direct encounter with the innovative attempts and visions of artists who shifted art into the public sphere.
