반 고흐 in 파리 Van Gogh in Paris : A Dialogue with Modernism

 

 2007년 회고전에 이은 불멸의 화가 반 고흐, 그 두 번째 이야기 ‘반 고흐 in 파리’는 파리시기를 주제로 유화작품 60여 점이 선보인다. 2년간의 파리체류는 반 고흐의 양식적 변화를 이룬 가장 중요한 시기로 인상주의라는 새로운 사조의 발견을 통해 새로운 화가로 탄생하는 시기이다.

 본 전시는 파리시기 작품에 대한 집중적 연구분석을 통해 동시대 미술에 뛰어들어 단숨에 자신만의 스타일을 만들어낸 그의 예술적 재능에 대한 고찰임과 동시에 그의 천재성을 면면히 살펴볼 수 있는 전시이다. 또한, 연대기적 서술형이 아닌 주제중심의 테마전시로 다양한 주제에 대한 질문과 해답을 통해 반 고흐 작품을 둘러싼 비밀을 풀어간다.

 <회색 펠트모자를 쓴 자화상> 등 파리시기에 그린 9점의 자화상을 한자리에 모은 이번 전시는 동시대 미술의 선구자가 되고 싶었고, 화가로서 명성을 갈망했던 청년 화가 반 고흐의 고뇌에 찬 얼굴 속에 담긴 인간적 고민과 그의 열정을 함께 발견하는 시간여행이다.

 Van Gogh exhibition in 2007 was the very first Van Gogh retrospective including his early and late major works. This time, the exhibition, which has the purpose of an in-depth academic and educational study of his art, is the theme-based one focusing on his time in Paris. About 60 oil paintings are exhibited. Van Gogh, in Paris, laid the most important and artistic groundwork for his artwork.

 We can see his artistic talents and genius in art since he absorbed art of the time, and developed and completed his own style for such a short period. The time in Paris is the fruit of academic research proving that Van Gogh changed from a realist into a modernist. And the exhibition sets various subjects and asks questions which bring unexpected answers.

 9 self-portraits from Paris are exhibited and this will be a new milestone to Van Gogh’s exhibition. With this many self-portraits, Van Gogh’s face full of agony can be appreciated in various perspectives.
