디스로케이션 Dislocation

 

 대구미술관은 한국을 넘어 세계 미술의 주역으로 활동하고 있는 작가들의 예술세계를 소개하는 ‘디스로케이션’을 개최한다. 디스로케이션은 라틴어로 이탈, 해체, 분리의 뜻으로 지난 미술에 대한 해체된 개념의 우리 시대의 ‘새로운 미술’을 의미하며, 미술을 위한 미술을 벗어나 사회와 인생의 폭넓은 문제를 고민하며 평범한 일상으로 돌아와 사회와 소통하고자 시도한다. 또한, 미술의 형식적 일관성 대신 다양한 장르와 형태를 실험하며 예술작품이 시각적 대상이 아닌 우리 생의 한순간으로써 또 여기 함께 참여함으로써 우리의 진정한 자아와 정체성을 발견할 수 있는 도구로써 예술의 또 다른 역할을 제시한다. 결과적으로 미술은 더욱더 자유로워졌고, 덕분에 우리는 다양하고도 인간적인 미술을 누릴 수 있게 되었다. 

 참여작가 구정아, 바이런킴, 서도호, 양혜규, 오인환, 윤향란, 정연두, 조숙진, 한성필, 한순자, 허은경 등 11명은 모두 한국 혈통으로 한국의 정보화와 세계화의 한가운데 부상하여 세계미술계의 흐름과 새로운 미술 경향을 주도하는 중견들로 성장하였다. 이들은 한국적 감성에 글로벌 감성을 덧입힌 작품들로 세계인들의 이해와 소통을 이끌어내고 있으며, 대부분이 한 곳에 정착하지 않고 지구촌을 부유하는 ‘유목민’으로 하나가 되어가는 지구촌 문화를 즐기며 작업한다. 이번 전시는 디스로케이션의 개념으로 우리 시대의 다채로운 미술과 그 미학적 특징을 가늠해 보고자 한다. 

 The exhibition, Dislocation, spotlights and explores the world of native Korean artists representing diverse artistic tendencies, emerging as protagonists of the art scene beyond the Korean art world. In the exhibition ‘dislocation’ is an aesthetic term referring to deconstruction or a deconstructed image and is a concept encapsulating ever-changing frames of life and thought in the global community and an indicator for understanding art today in which the boundaries of genres have broken down. While previous contemporary art pursued purity and creativity, art today is a new art resisting overstated, clamorous images derived from enormous capital and multifarious media, and their commercial hypocrisy, offering shelter and healing for the wounds in life. It also tries to set up new concepts of art, sticking to the common, simple, and trivial rather than ideals. 

 The 11 participating artists in the show work with this theme. These artists emerged while Korea strived for informationization and globalization. The artists, who on average are in their 40s, wander the world as freemen with flexible thinking and lifestyles, relishing the global culture and never staying in one place. Their works are thus not restricted to a specific genre or form: they experiment with diverse forms and new materials, seeking hybrid genres. In terms of subject, they work within common daily life, worrying about individual life and minor problems, away from the obsession of art for art’s sake. The exhibition views artistic tendencies of our age based on the conception of ‘dislocation’, trying to confirm it can be a sign of our art’s authenticity.
