한국 모더니즘 미술의 사유 Thoughts in Korean Modern Art

 

‘한국 모더니즘 미술의 사유’는 한국의 모더니즘 미술운동이 전개되고 정착되던 시기에 새로운 예술관을 치열하게 추구하였던 한국을 대표하는 주요 작가들의 작품들을 통해 한국적 감성의 원형을 되짚어 보고, 스피드 미학이 만연된 현시점에서 주체인 ‘나’를 다시 찬찬히 돌이켜 볼 수 있는 삶의 여백을 찾아보자는 취지에서 마련되었다. 

 아울러 참여한 작가들의 공통적 사유세계인 동양적 자연관을 바탕으로 지난 세기 서양철학을 지배해 왔던 인간 중심적 가치에서 자연 중심적 가치로서의 전환을 현대미술을 통해 생각해 보고자 하는 전시이다. 작품들은 한국의 대표적 미의식이라고 할 수 있는 자연주의와 꾸미려 하거나 드러내려 하지 않고 있는 그대로 자연과 동화되는 미를 보여줌으로써, 오늘날 서구의 문명비판을 위한 대안으로서 동양적 세계관을 제시해 주는 의미 있는 전시회가 될 것으로 기대된다. 

 Thoughts in Korean Modern Art is an exhibition prepared for examining the archetype of Korean emotion and exploring ‘me’, the subject at this point in time when impatient aesthetics is pervasive, through works by leading Korean artists who fiercely pursued the new views of art in the period when the Korean modernism art movement was developed and established. 

 This is also an exhibition to consider a shift from the human-centered values dominating Western philosophy to nature-centered values, based on the Eastern view. It is hoped the show will be a meaningful exhibition to present the Oriental view of the world as an alternative way to critically look at Western civilization through works demonstrating naturalism and artless, unadorned beauty assimilating nature as it is.
