Re:Quest : 1970년대 이후의 일본 현대미술 Re:Quest : Japanese Contemporary Art since the 1970s

서울대미술관은 일본국제교류기금과 함께 1970년대부터 현재에 이르는 일본현대미술 40년을 조망하는 전시회를 열고 있다. 지금까지 한국에서 일본 현대미술은 현장 중심의 최근 발표작과 개별 작가 중심으로 소개되었으나, 이 전시는 그 배경이 되는 전후(戰後) 일본미술사에 주목하여, 이제껏 한국에 제대로 소개된 적 없는 1970년 이후의 작품 110여 점을 통해 일본 현대미술을 역사적으로 재검토하는 장이다.

이번 전시에는 쿠사마 야요이, 이우환, 스가 키시오, 미야지마 타츠오, 모리무라 야스마사, 무라카미 다카시, 나라 요시토모, 아이다 마코토, 다나카 고키 등을 비롯하여 일본 내외에서 활발히 활동해온 작가 53명의 대표작 112점을 엄선되어 선보이고 있다. 이들 작품을 통해 1970년대의 모노하 및 개념미술, 1980년대의 특징적인 흐름을 주도했던 사진작가와 여성작가의 활동, 90년대이후 뉴미디어아트 등의 흐름을 펼쳐 놓았다.

이 전시는 일본 현대미술을 돌이켜봄으로써 동시대의 한국 미술과의 비교, 넓게는 전후 아시아지역의 미술 표현과 미술사의 다양성, 그리고 관계성과 상호영향에 대하여도 고찰할 중요한 기회가 될 것이다.

Museum of Art, Seoul National University and Japanese Foundation cohosts the exhibition that presents post-1970s Japanese contemporary art. Until now Japanese contemporary art was introduced by individual artist’s recent works. However, this exhibition concentrates on post-war Japanese art history. By presenting post-1970s pieces that have never been introduced before, it will examine Japanese contemporary art historically.

The Exhibition covers 112 pieces of 53 highly active artists including Kusama Yayoi, Lee Ufan, Suga Kishio, Miyajima Tatsuo, Nara Yoshitomo, Aida Makoto,Tanaka Koki. Art works are about the Mono-ha and conceptual art of 1970s, leading photographers and female artists of 1980s, new media art after 1990s.

Visitors of this exhibition will be offered a valuable opportunity to compare Japanese and Korean contemporary art. More generally, they can examine diversity, relationship and interaction of post-war artistic expressions and art histories of Asia.
