《방혜자: 천지에 마음의 빛 뿌리며 간다》전은 2026년 한불 수교 140주년 기념행사 중 하나로, 한국과 프랑스를 오가며 양국의 문화예 술을 양분 삼아 독자적인 예술세계를 구축한 방혜자(1937–2022)의 회고전이다. 국립현대미술관 소장품을 비롯해 전체 출품작의 절반 이 상을 국내에 소개되지 않은 프랑스 소재 작품들을 선보이며, 국립 퐁 피두센터, 파리 시립 세르누치박물관 등에서 소장하고 있는 유수한 작 품을 포함한다. 이로써 작가의 1960년대 초기작부터 2000년대 이후 후반기의 대표작에 이르기까지 시기별 주요 작품을 총망라한다. 전시는 ‘빛의 탄생’, ‘하늘과 땅과 손을 잡고’, ‘빛을 심으며’, ‘빛으 로 태어나는 길’ 총 4부와 ‘인트로’, ‘아카이브’ 공간으로 구성된다. 동선을 따라 땅의 기운, 하늘의 세계, 마음의 에너지가 깃든 공간을 지나 며 방혜자가 평생에 걸쳐 사유해 온 빛의 세계를 차차 마주하도록 한 다. 늘 새로 태어나는 마음으로 빛을 향해 정진해 온 작가의 여정을 따 라 방혜자의 예술세계와 그 빛의 의미를 깊이 헤아리게 한다.
Held as part of the celebrations in 2026 marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France, 《BANG Hai Ja: Sowing Light Across Heaven and Earth》 is a retrospective of BANG Hai Ja (1937–2022), an artist who built a distinctive artistic world nourished by the cultures and arts of both Korea and France while traveling between the two countries. In addition to works from the MMCA Collection, more than half of the exhibited works are France-based pieces being introduced in Korea for the first time, including prestigious collections from the Centre Pompidou and Musée Cernuschi in Paris. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of Bang’s major works throughout each period, from her early works of the 1960s to representative late works created after the 2000s. The exhibition is composed of four sections: “The Birth of Light,” “Holding Hands with the Heaven and the Earth,” “Sowing Light,” and “The Path of Becoming Light,” along with an introductory section and an archive space. Following the exhibition path, visitors move through spaces imbued with the pulse of the earth, the realm of the heavens, and the energy of the heart, gradually encountering the world of light that BANG contemplated throughout her life.
