심포지엄 기획의 변

이번 국제심포지엄 ‘도시재생 & 커뮤니티아트 프로젝트’(Urban Regeneration &
Community Art Project)는 2012년 아트 프로젝트인 ‘커뮤니티 페어_아트 폐허(Community
Fair-Art Fehur)’의 부대행사로 기획되었다.
본 행사 ‘아트 프로젝트'는 재개발의 필요와 그것의 과정 속에서 폐허로 방치된 도시의 소외 공간에 예술가들이 개입하는 커뮤니티아트를 통해서 ‘예술을 통한 도시 재생’을 지향한다. 이번 국제심포지엄은 이러한 본 행사의 취지를 살리고 커뮤니티아트에 대한 이론적 논의들과 실천적 지평들을 반성적으로
재성찰하고자 한다. 이 심포지엄은 발제와 질의에 참여하는 한국, 영국, 홍콩, 프랑스, 독일의
관련 분야 전문가들의 열띤 토론을 통해서 도시재생과 커뮤니티아트에 관한 오늘날 당면한 과제들을 면밀히 살펴보고 새로운 대안들을 마련해보는 자리가
될 것이다.
첫 번째 발제자인 박신의(Shin-Eui PARK, 경희대
교수, 한국)는 커뮤니티아트의 문화민주주의 이론과 그것의
사회적 영향에 대한 문제제기를 통해서 예술창작에 대한 이론과 실천의 괴리를 화해시키는 실천형 이론의 모델들을 제안한다.
두 번째 발제자인 미샬 클레가(Michal KLEGA,
미술이론가, 영국)는 영국을 중심으로 한 대안공간
활동과 커뮤니티아트를 실천해온 경험에 기초하여, ‘커뮤니티’와 ‘커뮤니티 공간’에 대한 면밀한 개념적 분석을 거쳐 유럽에서의 도시재생과
커뮤니티아트와의 접목을 실천하는 예술운동들을 소개한다. 그는 특히 기관들이 주도해 온 영국의 예술현장들을
비판적으로 성찰하면서 예술가들이 주도적으로 창출하는 다양한 방식의 커뮤니티아트를 제안한다.
세 번째 발제자인 목취유(Mok Chiu Yu,
CCCD 대표, 홍콩)는 홍콩과 아시아에서 진행되어온
커뮤니티아트를 분석한다. 특히 연극을 중심으로 한 다양한 지역 연계의 예술활동과 더불어 예술가와 대중이
자발적으로 참여하는 커뮤니티 아트를 제안하고 그것의 네트워크를 통한 아시아적 비전을 조망한다.
네 번째 발제자인 백용성(Yong-Sung BEHCK,
커뮤니티스페이스 리트머스 대표, 한국)은 커뮤니티아트를
소수주의의 관점으로 분석하면서, 그간 한국에서 진행되어 온 커뮤니티아트의 미래를 이러한 소수주의의 지속적인
운동으로 제안한다.
마지막으로 이탈(Tal LEE, 프로젝트 총감독)은 그간 제물포재래시장과 전도관으로 지칭되는 인천의 소외공간에서 벌였던 본행사인 ‘커뮤니티 페어_아트 폐허(Community
Fair-Art Fehur)’의 진행과정 속에서 당면했던 실천적 고민들과 그것에 관한 문제의식을 제기함으로써 커뮤니티아트의 미래적
대안을 요청한다.
토론에 참여하는 각국의 질의자들-클레르 부드소크(Claire BOUDSOCQ, 독립큐레이터, 프랑스), 정수모(Soo-Mo JUNG, 아티스트, 한국), 김종길(Jong-Gil GIM, 경기도미술관 큐레이터, 한국), 토르스텐 나스(Thorsten NASS, 아티스트, 독일)-은 발제자가 간과한 문제의식들을 제기하고 토론의 범주를 확장함으로써
오늘날 커뮤니티 아트가 당면한 제반문제들을 심층적으로 모색해나갈 것이다.
이와 같이, 인천이라는 특정 공간과 실행중인
아트프로젝트에 기초한 채, ‘도시의 재생과 커뮤니티아트’에
관한 문제의식들을 성찰하는 이번 국제심포지엄은 인천의 구도심을 문화허브의 거점구역으로 활성화시키는 데 제기되는 다양한 실천적 과제들을 점검하는
계기가 될 것이다. 이번 국제심포지엄이 예술과 도시재생에 관한 이론과 실제를 아우르는 의미 있는 성찰들과
맞부딪혀 새로운 대안들이 제시됨으로써 일상과 예술의 간극을 좁혀나가는 커뮤니티아트의 의의를 되새기는 계기가 되길 기대한다.
The Cause of Symposium Plan

This international symposium,
denominated as the ‘Urban Regeneration & Community Art Project’ was planned
as a supplementary event of the ‘Community Fair-Art Fehur' which is the art
project for the year 2012.
The main event, ‘art project'
highlights the need for redevelopment and is geared towards the 'regeneration
of the cities through art' in which artists intervene in the alienated space of
the cities that were left as ruins during this process. The international
symposium seeks to highlight this purpose of the main event and to re-examine
the theoretical discourses and implementation measures concerning community
art. This symposium will serve as the forum during which the experts from
Korea, UK, Hong Kong, France and Germany who will be presenting and
participating in the Q&A sessions can examine the issues faced by the urban
regeneration and community art in detail and to develop new alternatives during
heated discussions.
The first presenter, Shin-Eui PARK
(professor, Kyung Hee University, Korea) will present theories pertaining to
the art creation by mentioning the community art's cultural democracy theory
and by raising issues concerning its effect on the society, as well as present
the models for implementation type of theories that can mitigate the gap
between the theories and the implementation related to the art creations.
The second presenter, Michal KLEGA
(art theorist, UK) will analyze the concept of 'community' and 'community
space' in detail based on the experience of carrying out activities at the
alternative space and community art centered on the UK, and will introduce the
art movements that were grafted with the urban regeneration and community art
in EU. In particular, while examining the art fields of UK that institutions
led, in a critical manner, he will propose community art of diverse methods in
which artists create in an active manner.
The third presenter, Mok Chiu Yu
(CEO, CCCD, Hong Kong) will analyze the community art that was carried out in
Hong Kong and Asia. In particular, he will present the community art in which
artists and the general public participate voluntarily along with the diverse
region linked art activities centered on the plays, and will highlight the
Asian vision through network.
The fourth presenter, Yong-sung Baek
(President, Community Space Litmus, Korea) will analyze the community art from
the viewpoint of minoritarianism, and will propose the future of the community
art that was carried out in Korea to this day, as the continual movement of
this type of minoritarianism.
Lastly, Tal LEE (Supervisor of this
project) will request the future alternative for the community art by raising
the issues and the concerns that were faced during implementation while hosting
the ‘Community Fair-Art Fehur', the main event that was implemented at the
alienated space of Incheon which are Jemulpo Traditional Market and Jeondogwan.
The participants in the discussion
from different nations who will be asking questions - Claire BOUDSOCQ
(independent curator, France), Soo-Mo
JUNG (artist, Korea), Jong-Gil GIM
(curator, Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art, Korea), Thorsten NASS (artist,
Germany)- will raise the key issues that deserve consideration that the
presenters may have missed, to expand the scope of the discussions. As such,
comprehensive set of issues that the community art faces today will be examined
in detail.
Likewise, this international symposium that will examine the key issues concerning the ‘Urban Regeneration & Community Art’ while based on the specific space called Incheon and on the art project that is underway will serve as the opportunity for re-examining the diverse implementation measures that were raised to vitalize Incheon's old downtown area as the cultural stronghold. Hopefully, this international symposium will serve as the opportunity for re-thinking the significance of community art that is narrowing the gap between the everyday life and the art by presenting new alternatives after contemplating about the meaningful issues that can cover theories and realities pertaining to the art and urban regeneration.
