SeMA 중간허리 2012 : 히든트랙 SeMA Gold 2012 : Hidden Track

 

 

 한국 미술계의 중견작가들을 조망하는 서울시립미술관의 ‘SeMA 중간허리 2012’는 30년이 넘게 자신만의 ‘길’을 닦아 온 50/60대 중견작가 19인의 숨겨진 창작 욕망과 함께 이들의 작업세계를 이색적으로 반추해 볼 수 있는 ‘히든트랙’ 전시를 제안한다.

 

 ‘히든트랙’은 음반제작 용어로, 음악앨범 어딘 가에는 들어가 있으나 선곡 리스트에 명기되지 않은 ‘곡’ 혹은 ‘단편’을 말한다. 음악가들이 발표하지 않았던 미완성의 파편들을 편집해서 음반 맨 마지막 혹은 곡 사이에 제목 없이 수록했기 때문에 ‘히든트랙’이란 이름을 갖게 되었다.

 

 초청 작가 19인(강홍구, 고낙범, 김용익, 김지원, 노상균, 문범, 안규철, 오형근, 육근병, 윤영석, 윤동천, 이기봉, 임옥상, 조덕현, 최민화, 최진욱, 황인기, 홍명섭, 홍성도)이 제안하는 ‘히든트랙’은 이들을 스쳐 지나가는 ‘또 다른 생각들’이지만, 이들의 작업세계를 소리 없이 연결하는 창작의 동력이 되기도 한다. ‘히든트랙’에 초청된 작가들의 작품은 서로 연결될 수 있는 그 어떤 공통된 주제나 이슈를 갖고 있지 않다. 하지만 작품 하나하나의 특이성이 부각되는 이 독특한 모임이 발산하는 자유로운 에너지는 작품을 둘러싼 그 어떤 담론보다 강하게 전달될 수 있을 것이다.

 

 ‘SeMA Gold 2012’ by Seoul Museum of Art is an exhibition for a specific generation focusing on mid-career artists in the Korean art scene. Reflecting on their 30 years, I have proposed Hidden Track as a concept revealing this generation’s here and now in a rather unique manner.

 

 A hidden track in recorded music refers to a piece of music on a music album or a CD omitted from the track listing. The term derives from the fact that unfinished fragments unreleased and compiled by musicians are recorded between music pieces or at the end without a title.

 

 The concept ‘hidden tracks’ sheds light on the hidden desire for creation and art world of 19 Korean mid-career artists(Hong-goo Kang, Nak-beom Kho, Yong-ik Kim, Ji-won Kim, Sang-Kyoon Noh, Moon Beom, Kyu-chul Ahn, Hein-kuhn Oh, Keun-byung Yook, Dong-chun Yoon, Young-seok Yoon, Ki-bong Rhee, Ok-sang Lim, Duck-hyun Cho, Min-hwa Choi, Gene-uk Choi, In-kie Whang, Myung-seop Hong, Sung-do Hong) in their 50s and 60s who have trail-blazed their own paths for over 30 years. Their concealed desire may be ‘another fleeting thought’, but is motivation for their creation associated with their art world.
