세상에서 가장 아름다운 그림을 통해서 만나는 행복
피에르-오귀스트 르누아르(1841-1919)는 전 세계인으로부터 가장 사랑 받는 관능과 환희의 인상주의 미술의 선구자다. 19세기 후반기 미술사의 격변기를 살았던 뛰어난 대가들 가운데서‘비극적인 주제를 그리지 않은 유일한 화가’로 일컬어지는 르누아르는“그림은 즐겁고 유쾌하고 예쁜 것이어야 한다.”라는 예술 철학으로 무려 5,000여 점이 넘는 유화작품을 남겼다.
이번 전시는 1985년 파리 그랑 팔레에서 열린 회고전 이후 전시 작품의 질과 양적인 면에서 르누아르 전시 사상 최대 규모를 자랑하는 전시이다. 100여 점에 달하는 르누아르의 작품은 인상파의 보고로 알려진 오르세미술관과 오랑주리미술관, 워싱턴국립미술관 등 전 세계 40여 공공미술관과 개인소장 작품들을 한자리에 모아 이루어졌으며, 전시구성은 8개의 테마로 나뉘어 르누아르 예술의 총체적인 이해가 쉽도록 꾸며진다. 르누아르 예술의 진수를 볼 수 있는
기회가 될 것이다.

Finding True Happiness Through His Masterpieces
Pierre-Auguste Renoir(1841-1919) is the most beloved pioneer mpressionist of the sensuality and the joy. Late in the 19th century, Renoir was called “The only artist who never painted tragedies”. During his lifetime he completed 5,000 oil paintings, sparkling with color and light, representing joyful and glorious life, following his philosophy “A picture has to be something pleasant, delightful and pretty”.
This first-time Renoir retrospective exhibition in Korea represents the pioneer Impressionist, who desired to show true happiness with his artworks. The Renoir Seoul exhibition is the largest solo exhibition in terms of work quality and quantity ever since Renoir retrospective in Grand-Palais, Paris in 1985. This time, nearly 100 works came together in a single exhibition from globally renowned 40 other public art museums and private collections like the Orsay Museum, the Orangerie Museum, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, etc. The exhibition will give us a unique opportunity to see the essence of Renoir Art.
