사경변상도의 세계, 부처 그리고 마음

　국립중앙박물관은 기획특별전으로 <사경변상도의 세계, 부처 그리고 마음>을 기획전시실에서 개최하고 있다. 우리나라 최초로 기획된 <사경변상도>특별전으로 국보급 문화재 100여점이 전시된다. 불교 경전의 내용을 압축하여 그림으로 섬세하고 정교하게 표현한 사경변상도는 고려시대 불교미술의 뛰어난 예술성과 심미성, 정신성을 동시에 엿 볼 수 있어 일찍부터 많은 사람들의 관심을 받아 왔다. 그러나 사경변상도는 실물을 쉽게 접할 수 없어 연구에 많은 제한이 따르는 분야였다. 본 전시에서는 국립박물관 소장품과 공ㆍ사립박물관, 미술관, 그리고 개인들이 소장하고 있는 사경변상도들을 총 망라하였다. 특히 삼성미술관리움 소장 국보 제196호를 비롯하여 국보 7점, 보물 17점, 일본의 중요문화재 2점 등 지정문화재만도 26점이나 전시되어 사경 국보전이라 할 수 있다. 또한 현재까지 공개된 적이 없는 고려 충렬왕대의 승지 염승익(廉承益)이 발원한 개성 남계원석탑 출토 <법화경그림 妙法蓮華經 1帙>이 보존처리를 거쳐 선보인다.

Sutra Painting : In Search of Buddhahood

The National Museum of Korea is holding the special exhibition, 'Sutra Painting : In Search of Buddhahood' at the Special Exhibition Gallery. This will be the first special exhibition in Korea featuring over 100 sutra paintings with the quality of National Treasure. Sutra painting, which compresses the contents of the Buddhist Sutra by delicate and elaborate illustrations, has been the center of interest as it reveals the Buddhist aesthetic of the Goryeo Dynasty. However, sutra painting is not frequently exhibited, due to its requirements for preservation. This exhibition will bring together the sutra paintings from National Museums, private museums, galleries, and from private collections. Especially, this exhibition includes 26 designated objects, such as 7 National Treasures inclusive of the National Treasure No.196 Flower Garland Sutra from the collection of Leeum Museum, 17 Treasures and 2 important cultural properties of Japan, allowing this to become a truly ‘National Treasure exhibition’ of sutra painting. Also, this is the first time exhibiting the Lotus Sutra Painting patronized by Yeom Seungik which was found in Namgaewon pagoda, after going through preservation treatment.
