Tel. 82-2-2124-8800 / seoulmoa.seoul.go.kr SeMA(Selected eMerging Artists)전은 서울시립미술관의 격년제 신진작가 전시로, 2004년 시작되어 올해로 3회째를 맞는다. 역량 있는 신진 작가들을 소개하고 동시대 미술의 이슈를 점검한다는 취지 아래, 서울시립미술관 큐레이터들의 공동 기획으로 진행된다. 젊은 작가들의 작품을 통해 동시대 작가들의 새로운 미의식을 읽어내고, 한국미술의 미래를 조망해보는 기회를 마련하려는 시도라 할 수 있다. ‘다양하고 복잡한 현대미술을 근원적으로 접근하면서도 쉽게 설명할 수 있는 방법은 없을까?’ 라는 고민에서 출발한
전은 ‘오늘날의 작가들이 미술을 바라보는 다양한 태도’를 네 가지로 나누어 조망한다. 작가가 생각하는 ‘미술’이라는 것이 ‘조형요소들의 울림’이냐, ‘외침으로서의 미술’이냐, ‘유일한 소통출구로서의 미술’이냐, ‘삶과 하나된 미술’이냐에 따라 <선과 색의 울림>, <물로 쓴 슬로건>, <상상의 틈, 괴물 되기>, <일상의 발견>의 네 섹션을 구성하였고, 이 네 가지 주제를 통해 현대미술을 이해할 수 있는 하나의 틀을 제공하고 있다.
‘SeMA’ is an biannual exhibition presenting selected young artists by Seoul Museum of Art, which started since 2004 and celebrates its 3rd opening this year. Aiming of introducing distinctive young Korean artists and presenting the issues of contemporary art, SeMA is co-curated by the curators of Seoul Museum of Art. In addition, SeMA attempts to illuminate the evolving aesthetic consciousness of contemporary artists through their works and offer a chance to view the future of Korean Art. starts from the question, ‘what is the method to approach the basis of the complex and diverse contemporary, yet defining and explaining it more clearly at the same time?’ This exhibition presents the answer to this question by exploring ‘how do the artists of today think of art and deal with it.’ Artistic interpretation and expression of young artists are clarified in this exhibition through the four categories such as ‘composition of plastic elements,’ ‘manifestation and resistance to society’, ‘The last exit for communication,’ or ‘art indivisible from everyday life.’ Accordingly the exhibition is composed of 4 sub-themes, , , and . Reflecting these four different artistic responses of contemporary artists to the world, these four themes could provide a frame to understand contemporary art.
