<오늘의 한국미술_미술의 표정> 전은 예술의전당이 개관 20주년을 맞아 한국현대미술을 조명하는 전시다. 국내파와 해외파 작가 총 46명이 참여했다. 참여 작가들은 30대 초반의 함진 작가부터 80대의 변시지 작가에 이르기까지 작가 층이 광범위할 뿐만 아니라 출품작들도 특정장르에 편중되지 않고 여러 장르의 작품들이 전시되고 있어 그야말로 한국 현대미술의 한바탕 잔치를 보는 듯하다.

이번 전시는 특정한 주제를 지향하거나 표방하지 않고, 오직 눈을 통해 지각되는 미술의 표현에 주목하였다. 특히 미술이 무엇보다도 눈으로 보는 시각예술이기에, 눈에 비치는 이미지를 이해하는 것이 '미술이란 무엇인가'라는 기본적인 물음에 접근할 수 있게 보여주고 있다. 이번 전시는 한국미술의 현주소를 파악하고 미술의 원리, 특히 표현의 세계를 체험하는데 더없이 좋은 기회를 제공한다.

is Seoul Arts Center's 20th anniversary exhibition that examines Korean contemporary art. There are forty six artists participating for this exhibition who are from Koreans well as artists working in overseas. The participant artists are diverse from Ham Jin who is thirty years old to Shi Ji Byun who is in his age of eighties. Moreover, the art works for this exhibition are diverse in genre instead of inclining in a specific genre, so that this exhibition is almost like a banquet of Korean contemporary art.

exhibition is does not articulate any articular theme. Instead, it focuses on the expressions of art we feel through our eyes. The idea behind this is that we should first concentrate our attention on the images we see to truly understand the "nature of art." The exhibition surveys today's Korean contemporary art and it provides the opportunity of experiencing the principle of art and the world of expression.
