<반응하는 눈 : 디지털 스펙트럼>전은‘보는 것’, 즉‘시각적 인식’을 주제로 1960년대 등장한 옵아트의 양상을 동시대 미디어 환경에서 새롭게 바라보며, 다채롭게 전개되는 시지각적 체험을 관객들이 적극적인 참여로 느끼게끔 하는 전시이다. 미술을 유희적 차원에서 경험시키며, 동시에 과학적, 철학적 사고의 폭을 넓힐 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 기획되었다.

전통적으로 시각예술의 영역을 지배해 온 인간의“눈”은 각 시대별로 수많은 예술가, 과학자, 철학자들에게 우주만큼 신비로운 세계로 여겨지며 끝없는 연구의 대상이 되어왔다. 이 전시는 일상적인 시각이나 다른 형식의 예술작품에서는 볼 수 없는 특별한 심리적인 과정이 눈을 통하여 뇌에 전달됨으로 나타나는 시각 효과에 집중하였던 옵아트의 특성들을 차용하거나 적용한 동시대미술의 면면을 살펴보며, 오늘날 미디어 환경에서 더욱 다채롭게 전개된 시지각적 인식의 양상들을 다양한 스펙트럼으로 선보이게 된다.

이 전시에서 동시대 예술가들은 때로는 과학자처럼, 때로는 연금술사처럼 수많은 시각적 퍼즐들과 마법과 같은 눈속임 장치들을 이용해 환상의 공간을 창출하며 관람객들로 하여금 시지각의 한계를 넘어서는 판타지의 세계를 경험시킨다. 이것은 오늘날 컴퓨터가 주도하는 미디어 환경에서 새로운 지각과 의미를 찾아 떠도는 우리의 눈이 보고자 하는 것이며, 더 이상 절대적 믿음이나 가치가 존재하지 않는 최근의 철학적 분위기를 반영하는 것이다.

Your Mind's Eye: Digital Spectrum is an exhibition to be presentedat the Seoul Museum of Art from July 18th through August 23rd, 2008 which sheds light on diverse aspectsof Op Art since the 1960s from the new perspective of contemporary media environments. Under the theme of "Seeing" or "Visual Perception" the exhibition is designed to allow viewers to actively participate in various visual perception activities, experience art as anamusement or pleasure, and at the same time provide an opportunity to expand the breadth of their scientific, philosophical thoughts. In this show, like both scientists and alchemists have done, participating artists bring about fantastic spaces by using techniques and various apparatus for exploring and exploiting the fallibility of the eye like those found in many visual puzzles and thus, viewers can experience a fantastic world beyond the limits of visual perception. This world is merely what our eyes intend to discover. This can be seen in the new perception and meaning under the media environment of the computer, which reflects a recent philosophical atmosphere lacking absolute belief and worth.
